Some days are just not good. On such days, sports are my sanctuary. I’ve been reconnecting with the one that started it all for me, these last couple weeks. Swimming is easy on the joints, rhythmic, and provides time to think about nothing at all. Its rituals are familiar, and take me back to the few enjoyable aspects of being a middle and high school student. On a pool deck, in a skate park… Wherever practice takes place, I feel deep sense of safety.
I felt compelled to write a bit about what this subject means to me :)
I mean, yes, times have changed, but this is still an ad that capitalizes on women’s insecurity about women’s bodies in order to get them to spend their money on a product that will “solve” their “problem”. I totally dig that this supports women of a body type that is not publicly encouraged today, but let’s not ignore the fact that it’s still of a dated mentality. That’s all. Women don’t have to look fat OR skinny, or anything at all! Women can look however the fuck they want, and they sure dont need ads made by men telling them what “beautiful” means.
My film “The Kid Who Drowned at Summer Camp” has been selected to screen in Les Femmes Underground International Film Festival! I’m very honored to screen & receive a laurel. I never thought anything I’d make would have any kind of official stamp. Yay!
